How Custom Jewelry Is Made: From CAD to Finished Piece

From sketch to CAD to casting, setting, and polishing — the seven steps behind every custom piece.
A custom piece of jewelry is more than a product; it is a collaboration. From a rough idea to a finished ring, every piece passes through a precise, multi-step process. Here is exactly how we turn your vision into a finished piece of jewelry.
Step 1: Your Idea
Every custom piece starts with you. Share a sketch, a reference photo, or simply a description of what you have in mind. Our designers ask the right questions about style, stone, metal, and budget, turning a vague idea into a clear brief.
Step 2: CAD Design
Your idea becomes a precise 3D model. Using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, our designers map out every dimension, angle, and stone position. Proportions are perfected here, before any metal is touched.
Step 3: 3D Rendering
Before production begins, you see a photorealistic render of your piece. This lets you review the design from every angle and request changes, so there are no surprises when the real piece arrives.
Step 4: Casting
Once approved, the design is 3D-printed in wax and cast in your chosen metal using the lost-wax casting method. The wax model is encased in investment, the wax is burned away, and molten metal is poured into the cavity, capturing every detail.
Step 5: Stone Setting
With the metal cast, the stones are set by hand. Whether it is a single solitaire or a full halo of pave diamonds, each stone is placed and secured individually, a craft that demands steady hands and years of experience.
Step 6: Polishing and Finishing
The piece is polished to a mirror finish, removing every trace of the casting process. This step brings out the metal's full luster and prepares the piece for inspection.
Step 7: Quality Control
Before anything ships, every piece is inspected under magnification. We check stone security, symmetry, finish, and dimensions. Only pieces that pass our standard leave the workshop.
The Finished Piece
The result is a piece of jewelry made to your exact specification, from a single engagement ring to a full collection. And because the process is transparent, you know exactly how it was made.
Why Choose a Manufacturer with In-House Production?
Many retailers outsource production. We keep every step in-house, which means:
- Direct communication with no middlemen between you and the maker.
- Tighter quality control, with every step inspected in one workshop.
- True customization, with changes possible at any stage.
- Transparent pricing, with no unnecessary markups.
